What is it exactly?

Super PK is a concentrated solution containing phosphorus and potassium. The chemical symbol of phosphorus is P, and the chemical symbol for potassium is K (from the Latin  word Kalium). Super PK is a plant nutrient additive for when plants are flowering or fruiting.

What does it do then?

Phosphorus is a component of the nucleic acids RNA and DNA which are important in cell multiplication and growth. Phosphorus is part of a molecule called ATP which is involved in energy transfer inside cells.  Also phosphorus is an important component of cell membranes where it plays a role in the interaction between the cell membrane surface and nutrients in the growing medium.

Potassium which next to nitrogen is the mineral nutrient required in the largest amount by plants. Potassium is important in a plants ability to handle stress from environmental factors like pathogens, drought, frost etc. Potassium also plays a very important role in osmoregulation or the control of the amount of water inside cells.

What does this mean then?

Basically at the end of the day we are talking about the quality of fruits and flowers, ie their health and vitality, resistance to pests and diseases and even things like flavour of fruit.

OK, how do I use it?

Super PK is a nutrient additive, so it is added to the nutrient solution. This is only done towards the end of the crop when the need for higher levels of phosphorus and potassium develops.

What about dose rates?

The maximum dose rate is 5mls of Super PK for each litre of nutrient solution. This will add 0.7mS to the EC of the nutrient solution so it may be a good idea to cut the strength of the nutrients a bit although it isn’t totally necessary.

How often should I dose the tank?

With run to waste systems Super PK only needs to be added once when the nutrient solution is mixed. For recirculating systems dose the tank weekly.

Any precautions?

Super PK isn’t regarded as a dangerous product, however good practice means care should be taken whenever handling chemicals
